Another advance in the field of fertility is the use of donor gametes-egg/sperm.
Use of donor gametes (sperm/egg /embryo) might be an option for some couples to achieve parenthood and our medical staff and counselors will help you weigh the pros and cons of pursuing this option. In some couples, this helps them see light at the end of the tunnel in their long journey in attaining parenthood.
When is donor egg treatment suggested?
- Premature ovarian failure (POF)-where there are no eggs in the ovary due to premature menopause (stoppage of periods at an early age due to genetic or other reasons).
- Advanced maternal age –more than 42 years of age.
- Repeated IVF failures
- Poor quality eggs/embryos
- Ovarian failure due to chemotherapy/radiation in cancer patients.
Process of Donor Egg/Embryo
In certain subfertile couples, both partners have issues such as no sperm count and either poor quality/low egg number and in these couples use of donor embryos help them achieve parenthood. In certain couples with genetic diseases also this treatment is suggested to obtain a healthy baby.
