IVF can be modified with a variety of reproductive technologies that are additionally assisted to result in successful outcomes.

MotherToBe fertility clinic in Hyderabad routinely incorporates innovative procedures in its treatment plans for couples who have experienced multiple IVF failures, including:

  • Laser-Assisted Hatching

Assisted hatching is a reproductive technology that helps embryos to attach the womb of the woman,. Pregnancy cannot happen unless the embryo hatches.

The first group of patients we will offer LAH-laser-assisted hatching would be those who have had more than one failed IVF cycle, previously. The second group of patients, to whom we would be offering this technique, are women with advanced age who present for IVF treatment, specifically having more than 40 years of age. This is also offered for women who have a high FSH. So, these are specific groups of patients to whom we offer laser-assisted hatching intending to obtain better pregnancy rates.

The unfertilized egg is surrounded by a shell known as zona pellucida, where it ensures that only one sperm enters the egg and fertilizes it. After fertilization, the zona pellucida keeps the cells of the embryo together.

In laser-assisted hatching, what we actually do is that the outer shell of the egg, which is called the zona pellucida, is pierced using a laser to creates a small hole and this facilitates the implantation process.

Another group of patients where we offer LAH is those for whom we do what is called frozen embryo transfer. So, whenever the embryos are frozen due to the vitrification process, the outer shell of the egg could become quite thick. When we thaw the embryos it is important to do the laser-assisted thinning or hatching which facilitates the implantation process and improves the success in this group of patients. At Mother-To-Be fertility center in Hyderabad, we have very high success rates with frozen embryo transfers, close to 70%, by using this additional technology.

Let’s have a look at another latest technology that we have.

  • PGS-Pre-Implantation Genetic Screening

PGS or Pre-implantation genetic screening is offered to a selected group of couples to check whether they are repeatedly producing abnormal embryos which might be one of the reasons the embryos are not able to implant.

PGS is done for those who have had repeated implantation failure. In this process, we grow embryos in the lab for five days. Later the eggs will be retrieved followed by the stimulation of ovaries and fertilized with the ICSI procedure.

After that, few cells will be sent for genetic examination, to check for any chromosomal abnormalities in embryo. PGS identifies the chromosomally normal embryos, so these will be implanted in a woman through a frozen embryo transfer process to achieve a healthy pregnancy.

  • Blastocyst transfer

Thirdly, we also offer blastocyst transfer what is called extended culture or Day 5 transfer, which again helps to improve the success rate in the group of couples experience recurrent failed IVF cycles.

In the blastocyst process, we advance the culture of embryos for five to six days. At this stage, the embryos have more cells approx-80-100 and start to form 2 distinct layers, here the embryos are then called blastocysts.

Culturing embryos in the lab for 5-6 days give the embryos better chances to prove their developmental potential.  Unlike embryo transfer, a blastocyst transfer would implant much more quickly. The best embryo will be transferred to the woman which offers the most likely chance of conception.
